Thank you to the fellow Amateur Radio operators who showed up for the Picnic in the park.

VK5BEN Alan
VK5TOM Tom
VK5MCH Mick
VK5GM Graham
VK5PH Paul
VK5AK Bob
VK5PRO Peter and Son
VK5ZKR Rod
VK3NEB Ben

The winner on the day was VK5PH by 0.75 S-points.

Thanks go to VK5GM for setting up the food and beverage stand and VK5TOM for bringing the rolls. Me the cook on the day.

One thing learned you can never bring enough tools, measuring and test equipment to any outing.

I look forward to our next outing. The date and location will be posted soon.

VK5AK Bob pulled in a Victorian VK3CJ with an excellent signal on his BB7W, which previous to this he was pretty disappointed in.

All in all a very good day.

With regards to Picnic at the Park on Thursday 16th May.
It was bought our attention that through unfortunate events this event conflicts with the Funeral of two of our fellow VK's.
Lloyd Butler VK5BR
John Butler VK5NX
Whilst we commiserate, the event we will still progress as planned but out of respect for their commitment to Amateur Radio, the day will be dedicated to their memory and any contacts made will be informed in the QSO today is in memory of them.
We fully understand that some members will wish to attend the services.
Picnic at the Park will be holding other events and we hope to schedule some on the weekends to cater for people who work or have weekday commitments.

Unfortunately this event will occur on the same day as two of our most respected Amateur operators funerals.

Lloyd Butler  VK5BR  A founding member of AHARS

John Butler  VK5NX  A founding member of NERC & Wicen SA

I post this for your consideration and whether you may wish to reschedule the event.

Best regards,

Hi Rod and thank you for your post.

I have left the decision up to those who have already decided to attend the picnic if they still wish to attend the picnic in the park and attend either funeral instead.

Personally myself, I was not going to attend either funeral for logistical reasons in rescheduling the event and I have many family commitments in the following month. Therefore a rescheduling is out of the question for me.

However I feel that the best way for me to respect and honour the memory of the two operators who have passed is to go to the park and get on the air doing what they loved doing exactly the same as I do.

I hope those that have decided to not attend the Picnic or either funeral now give serious consideration going to one or the other or alternatively getting on the air that day and participating in the radio community.

The picnic will still go ahead in memory and honour of our silent keys.

If you wish to withdraw please email me @ vk5mch@vk5.au.

Respectfully Yours.

The test will be judged using the IronStone Range Kiwi SDR provided by VK5PH http://sdr.ironstonerange.com:8075/

This will be done by transmitting on AM with a tone and a set amount of power on several bands.

If you don't have an antenna come along for the egg and bacon roll and the company.

We hope to see you there.

A big announcement.... VK5MCH in company are organising an event under VK5.au
We are going to have "PICNIC AT THE PARK".
The first one is to be held at Thorndon Park Paradise on the 16th May 2024.
We will be doing a Park Activation with a twist. We want you to bring your HF portable antennas and we will put it to the test on performance and design ( Transceiver provided). There will be a small prize for the winning entry... Plus the Glory.
We encourage you to bring your family and make it a great social occasion.
The cost is $6 per person and will cover a bacon and egg roll, with coffee and tea available (we only wish to cover expenses).
Due to catering requirements we need to confirm attendance numbers. So please confirm your intention to attend by Monday the 13th May (including your withdrawal) by emailing Mick vk5mch@vk5.au
We want this to become a regular social event for all amateurs clubs. It is to be a social event with an amateur twist. However come along just for the social interaction.
So please get on board and join us, Amateurs working together to Make Amateur Great Again....LOL
Go to Google maps. Thorndon Park Hamilton Tce Paradise.

Start time 9am
We will be set up at BBQ 16/17. Please bring your own seats
Thorndon Park offers walking trails and adventure play ground for the younger generation  (lol) and a beautiful outlook.
See you there. 73's VK5GM
